The Department of Meteorology has announced that there will be an increase in rainy conditions in the southwestern part of the island over the next few days starting from today, October 3rd.
As a result, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and North-western provinces, as well as Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, will experience occasional showers or thundershowers.
In some areas of Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces, there may be fairly heavy showers exceeding 75mm.
Showers or thundershowers may also occur in other regions, especially in the evening or at night, particularly in Eastern and Uva provinces.
The public is advised to take precautions to minimize any damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Regarding sea areas, showers or thundershowers are expected intermittently in the coastal regions from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota, with the possibility of heavy rains in some places.
The prevailing winds will be south-westerly with speeds of 30-40 kmph. In certain sea areas, such as from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankesanthurai and Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil, wind speeds may increase to 50-60 kmph, leading to rough sea conditions.
In particular, the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil may experience occasional rough seas.
During thundershowers, there is a possibility of temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas.
