President Ranil Wickremesinghe is to make a special statement on the 13th Amendment to the Constitution in Parliament next week, a special statement from the UNP said.
“President Wickremesinghe will explain how all powers will be devolved to the Provincial Councils except police powers,” the statement said.
“The President has assured that all proposals pertaining to strengthening the 13th Amendment will be presented to Parliament for its approval” it added.
Also, the statement said different opinions of Tamil political parties is an impediment for the implementation of the 13th Amendment.
The statement comes around two weeks after the conclusion of the all party conference called for by the President to discuss the implementation of the 13th Amendment.
