Increase of 18% is sufficient – CEB.

As previously predicted, a tariff increase of 22% is required to cover the loss of 32 billion rupees, but based on the current situation, limiting it to an 18% tariff increase is sufficient, says the Electricity Board.

They stated this while participating in a consultation program on the proposed increase in electricity tariffs held by the Public Utilities Commission yesterday (18) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.

The electricity tariff was revised last July, and the following revision is scheduled for January next year. But the Electricity Board had informed the Public Utilities Commission that it was essential to increase the tariff by 22%, or 8 rupees per unit of electricity, this month.
