JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake made an open challenge calling to jail him if he had defrauded a single cent of the people as alleged by some.
Speaking at a rally in Gampaha on Sunday, he said certain people claimed that the JVP maintained offshore accounts and just afterward, government MP Tissa Kuttiarachchi said Anura Kumara should be jailed at least for a day.
“I or anyone of our party have never defrauded a single cent of the people. If we have done so, we won’t be able to do politics in this manner. We revealed their fraud and corruption with their names when they were in power. If we are involved in any such misdeeds, we would have already been jailed,” he said.
The MP said former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed a commission to punish them and said that Gotabaya had to go home even before the hearing of the commission concluded.
Dissanayake said more allegations, verbal attacks and mud-slinging against the JVP can be expected in the future and added that no one could stop the journey of the JVP to change the political path of the country.
“The JVP is set to change the political history of the country. The power transmission has occurred only within the two political camps in the country so far. Now, the two main camps are on the same side and power is going to be transmitted to the alternative force, the NPP. Not only President Ranil Wickremesinghe is going to lose power but the future of all other politicians like Namal Rajapaksa, ministers and their wives are at stake,” he said
