“Many organized criminals are still believed to be operating from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to a statement by a Sri Lankan Minister. Sri Lanka is actively cooperating with UAE authorities to apprehend these individuals and bring them to justice.
Reports suggest that Sri Lankan organized crime figures are residing in the UAE, particularly in cities like Dubai, where they are allegedly orchestrating criminal activities in Sri Lanka through their associates.
When asked about the current status of diplomatic efforts to locate and address this issue, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles stated that the government maintains ongoing communication with UAE authorities to track down these individuals.
Regarding the precise number of organized criminals in the UAE, Minister Alles mentioned that there is a significant presence, although he did not have specific details.
In the first half of this year, Sri Lanka witnessed 34 shooting incidents resulting in 20 fatalities and 13 injuries. These incidents are often linked to organized crimes, with murder and drug trafficking being prominent criminal activities associated with these individuals.”
