Gunadamin Elephant House Conducts Beach Clean-Up on World Clean-Up Day Partnering with Muve Colombo and Cleantech

Gunadamin Elephant House, in collaboration with Muve Colombo and Cleantech, organised a beach clean-up from Mount Lavinia to Wellawatta in celebration of World Clean-Up Day. The initiative aimed to restore the beach’s natural beauty while promoting awareness about responsible PET plastic disposal and the importance of recycling to protect ecosystems.

This effort is part of a six-month partnership between Gunadamin Elephant House and Muve Colombo, which includes daily clean-ups and the installation of collection bins at restaurants and public entrances. Meanwhile, Cleantech (Pvt) Ltd is supplying labour for daily clean-ups and managing the collection and recycling of plastic waste. This project thus underscores the commitment of all partners to environmental stewardship and sustainability.

Jude Martino, Vice President at John Keells Holdings said, “It’s inspiring to see the private sector come together for responsible waste management, and demonstrates the potential of collective action.”

Dilini Fernando, DGM Audit and Head of CSR at Muve Colombo added, “This is an important opportunity to drive responsible waste management and collectively raise awareness.”

Kasun Thennakoon, Head of Circular Economy Services at Cleantech remarked, “This collaboration highlights the importance of corporate teamwork in promoting responsible waste management for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.”

Gunadamin Elephant House’s dedication to such initiatives is part of a broader mission, with the company also investing in Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) across Sri Lanka to aid PET waste collection and recycling. This partnership reflects the private sector’s role and commitment in protecting the environment.
