Nine-member commission to prepare proposals for electoral reform

An exclusive gazette notification was issue by the President appointing a nine-member commission of inquiry under the ex-CJ Priyasad Dep to prepare proposals for reforming the existing electoral system.

The gazette announcement further stated that with the constitution of 1978, there have been changes in the country’s electoral system and the method of conducting the elections, and they should amend to suit the current social needs and to strengthen the principles of good governance and representative democracy.

According to the relevant gazette announcement, the members of the commission are as follows:

3. Senanayake Alisandaralage

4. Nalin Abeysekara (PC)

5. Rajitha Senaratna Perera

6. Ahamed Lebbe Mohamed Saleem

7. Sagarica Delgoda

8. Sriyani Nimalka Fernando

9. Deepani Samantha Rodrigo
