Northern Railway Line to close for six months

The northern railway line will be closed temporarily from January 2024 for renovations, said Sri Lankan authorities.

Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardena said the renovation work on the northern railway line will take place for a period of six months, following which trains will operate at a speed of 100/kmph from Colombo to Kankasanthurai.

He added that the renovation work on the Colombo to Panadura tracks will commence shortly.

In addition, plans are in place to remove the speed limits on the Kelani Valley Railway Line in order to increase the speed of train services.
