Woman injured after elephant rampage in Kandy Perahera

A woman was injured today when two elephants belonging to the Vishnu Devalaya went on a rampage during the second day of Kumbal perahera at the historic Temple of the Tooth in Kandy.

The two elephants came forward after they turned violent. After that, another two elephants that belonged to Sri Dalada Maligawa had also turned violent.

The two elephants, which belonged to the Dalada Maligawa, were brought under control and paraded the streets. The other two elephants were tied near the Queens Hotel.

During the incident, a woman was admitted to the Kandy hospital with injuries, and another three people had fallen into the Kandy Lake (Nuwara Wewa) after they panicked.

Later, the three people were rescued by the officers of the police lifeguard unit.
